Elwë (Thingol)

Elwë - The Sindar were the other significant kindred of Elves during the First Age of Middle-earth.  They were a branch of the Teleri who never made it to Valinor.  The Sindar settled in the land of Beleriand and Elwë became their king.  As king he adopted the name Elu Thingol, and next to Fëanor, he was likely the most powerful Eldar of the First Age.

"Elwë Singollo came never again across the sea to Valinor so long as he lived...In after days he became a king renowned, and his people were all the Eldar of Beleriand, the Sindar they were named." ~The Silmarillion, chap. 4 (Of Thingol and Melian)
