Durin the DeathlessDurin the Deathless - Durin is the most revered of all Dwarves and considered father of their race (actually there are seven, but Durin was the oldest and only one remembered by name).  He is called "Deathless" because of his extreme long life, surviving almost until the end of the First Age.

"They say also that the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves return to live again in their own kin and to hear once more their ancient names: of whom Durin was the most renowned in after ages, father of the kindred most friendly to the Elves, whose mansions were in Khazad-dȗm." ~The Silmarillion, chap. 2 (Of Aulë and Yavanna)
