Babylon - Located in Mesopotamia, Babylon was one of the oldest and most majestic cities on earth. The Book of Genesis records that it was originally built by the great hunter, Nimrod (Gen. 10:9-10). It was the capital of the Old Babylonian Kingdom (the Amorites) at the time of Hammurabi. After a long period of decline and domination at the hands of the Assyrians, the city experienced a resurgence under the Neo-Babylonian Empire (the Chaldeans). It was during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar that the Jews were exiled to the city of Babylon.
